How the test works

  • 10 questions for a warm-up.
  • 20 questions for a practice set. Most people use this one.
  • 50 questions for a longer session.

The shorter sets are a random draw from the full 102, and the questions are reshuffled every run, so repeating one does not mean repeating the same test. There is no signup and nothing to pay. Your progress saves on the device you are using; a free account keeps scores across devices.

What you get when you finish

Every question comes with a short explanation of why the right answer is right, not just which letter it was. Math questions show the work. You can also download the whole bank as a printable PDF with a full answer key if you would rather work on paper.

A few honest notes

These are original practice questions written from public frameworks. They are not real exam questions, and this site is not affiliated with WPI or with any state certification program. Your state sets the actual requirements, including the number of questions and the pass line, and some states write their own exam rather than using the WPI version.

About this practice test

This Water Distribution Safety practice test is a free study tool for water operators preparing for state and national certification exams. It pulls from a bank of 102 questions covering the calculations that show up across the exams, and every question comes with a plain-English explanation so you can actually learn the material.

This is a single-subject drill rather than a full certification exam, so it is the bank to run when one topic is the part costing you points. The questions come from the same WPI/AWWA-aligned distribution material as the grade exams, with a plain-English explanation on every answer. The full grade-by-grade tests live on the water distribution test hub.

How to study with it

Run a set of 10 when you only have a few minutes and a set of 50 when you're sitting down to study. Go back through the ones you missed and read why the right answer is right, then run another set a few days later. The questions are drawn at random from all 102, so you get a different set every time. Make a free account if you want the site to keep your scores.

Free to use, no sign-up needed to start, and these are practice questions rather than the real exam’s. More on how the site works in the FAQ.
