Arizona Water & Wastewater Operator Practice Tests

Arizona (ADEQ) certifies operators in four classifications: water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection, each with Grades 1 through 4 (Grade 4 highest), under A.A.C. Title 18, Chapter 5, Article 1. Arizona uses the standardized WPI (formerly ABC) exams, currently the computerized 2025 editions: 100 scored multiple-choice questions, 3 hours, 70 or better to pass, with the formula/conversion sheet supplied at the testing site. Exams are proctored at Gateway Community College, Central Arizona College, and the City of Phoenix, and scores come back immediately with an Individual Mastery Report emailed to you. Renewal takes 30 professional development hours (PDHs) every three years, but upgrading to a higher grade requires no PDHs. Reciprocity is like-for-like: ADEQ accepts active, good-standing certifications earned by examination from other states, military bases, and tribal agencies like ITCA, with roughly a 30-day review.
