Arizona (ADEQ) certifies operators across four system types — water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection — each with Grades 1 (entry) through 4 (highest).

Level 1 — Small Systems Operator → Grade 1
Entry-level certification. Small system operation, basic sampling, terminology, and maintenance.
IntermediateLevel 2 — Intermediate Operator → Grade 2
Intermediate-level exam prep. Treatment processes, operator math, regulations, troubleshooting.
AdvancedLevel 3 — Advanced Operator → Grade 3
