How to study with flashcards

Flashcards train recall, the part of the exam a multiple-choice quiz can hide. With the choices in front of you, it is easy to recognize the right one. On a flashcard you have to know it. Use both: flashcards to learn the material, then the practice tests to get used to the exam format.

  • Say the answer before you flip. Out loud or in your head. If you can't, it's a "Still learning."
  • Be honest with "Got it." Mark it only if you knew it without the card. Missed cards come back at the end of the round.
  • One level at a time. Pick the class you're testing for, or narrow it to a single topic.
  • Practice the math separately. Math problems need to be worked, so they aren't in the decks. Use the water math and wastewater math practice tests.
