Colorado (CDPHE Facility Operators Certification Board) classifies treatment facilities as Class A (highest), B, C, D, and O (O = exempt from a treatment operator).

Level 1 — Small Systems Operator → Class D
Entry-level certification. Small system operation, basic sampling, terminology, and maintenance.
IntermediateLevel 2 — Intermediate Operator → Class C
Intermediate-level exam prep. Treatment processes, operator math, regulations, troubleshooting.
AdvancedLevel 3 — Advanced Operator → Class B
Advanced-level certification. Process control, optimization, compliance for medium/large systems.
